Essay --

A year and three months ago, I was at football practice. I was on the defensive line. I tripped up the running back, but the running back landed on my left ankle. The result was a fracture on my left tibia. I played on my injury for two weeks. At that moment, I was not able to play football for the rest of the year. During this summer, I injured my back. I began to accumulate information about how to treat my injuries. While I was researching, the words physical therapy popped up. I clicked on them, and the article discussed what a physical therapist does. When I was halfway down the article, it stated that a physical therapist helps people with injuries like mine. After researching, I decided to be a physical therapist. Before fully deciding to do physical therapy, I arranged an interview a year and two months later with an actual physical therapist named Tess Vaughn. She began to discuss her view of being a physical therapist. She gave the general requirements, the advantages and the disadvantages of a physical therapist, and the salary. Although the salary of a physical therapist is abundant, the disadvantages of physical therapy outweigh the advantages. One of the general requirements is good time-management(Vaughn). Then she introduced different examples with this. She schedules her appointments based upon what she needs to be done throughout the day. Depending upon when she wants time with her family, she may choose to do her paperwork in the afternoon between each appointment. This involves the same thing with her appointments. Therefore, if people are not good at time managing, they should not go into physical therapy, which is really time consuming(Vaughn). Probably the biggest requirement for physical therapists is p... ...Vaughn). The third disadvantage is paperwork(Vaughn). According to Tess Vaughn, there is a plethora of paper work. Before going into physical therapy, think about having tons of paperwork on a desk. The fourth disadvantage is the amount of schooling. If one does not see himself doing seven to eight years of college, do not choose physical therapy as a career(Vaughn). Therefore, the decision is decided based on a student wanting eight years of college, tons of paperwork, and the liability. If he has the patience and dedication, he is capable of being a physical therapist. Once I learned about eight years of college and tons of paperwork, my decision changed. With others it can be different. I think the best part about physical therapy is helping people getting back on their feet, but I think the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. Others might think differently.

You’re Fired

Two words that people will go to extreme measures to never ever hear, pray, suck up to their boss and even†¦work hard. As frightening as these two words are, they play an essential role in the genius programme that is the Apprentice and honestly, those two words are the provider of my weekly supplement of entertainment. Have you realised just how downgraded television programmes have become? I have. The takeover of reality TV has completely lived up to new and changing consumer tastes but that doesn’t stop the show bosses of ITV from taking it too far. TV now is all about the fake tan, the drama of break ups and arguments. The Only Way is Essex, otherwise known as TOWIE (yes that’s the show that your children keep talking about) has officially taken over the meaning of television. The hair-tearing, teeth-wrenching-ly ridiculous programme means that I cannot turn on the TV without hearing â€Å"Well, jel.† Sorry, what? Thankfully, I have the Apprentice to keep me sane and just about alive. I’ve always found it most amusing to watch as the contestants introduce themselves â€Å"I’m better than unique; I’m naturally gifted in business,† claimed last year’s contestant Michael Copp who proved that he wasn’t so gifted in business after all when he was given the finger only 3 weeks into the arduous competition. The finger that I’m talking about, â€Å"the finger of dreaded doom† I think it should be called, is in fact Lord Sugar’s reputable gesture that does enough to send cold chills down my spine and leave contestants spluttering a combination of their tears and a part of their imperishable pride. Watching as they transform from the top dogs of the new business generation into helpless puppies that resort to pleading and begging in the hope that Lord Sugar will give them a second chance is simply hilarious; that is what I call pure entertai nment. The Apprentice is simply one of the best shows on TV at the moment which has managed to do the impossible in maintaining the qualities of good television; something which seems to have completely departed from our 40 inch television screens that now seem to lack purpose with the sheer amount of abhorrent and atrocious programmes that seem to occupy them. The Apprentice is the only programme around that is innovative and fresh; its concept is unique and actually meaningful – amazing, right? Unlike any of the other reality TV shows, the programme lives up to its purpose in showing us the truth and harsh reality behind business. It is just a touch of pure originality and excellence. It is becoming increasingly clear to see the importance that businesses have in modern society with successful businessmen having a tremendously important role in the world. The brilliance of this show is that is captures the truth about how business works in the real world and how you will really need more than just a dream to become successful. There aren’t many business gurus out there like Lord Sugar who will be willing to give people the opportunity to learn such essential skills in such an important sector of society. For the contestants to complete such gruelling tasks, gives them to chance to learn valuable skills that they will be able to manipulate in order to succeed. It’s not even just for the contestants; it’s an opportunity for people, especially young people sitting at home to learn about it too. I look forward to Season 9 and the next time that Lord Sugar sits down in the boarding room to announce â€Å"You’re fired†. Let the entertainment commence.

Preposition Review ESL Lesson Plan

Prepositions are a challenge for almost all students. There are many reasons for this, not least of which is the fact that English has numerous phrasal verbs. In this case, theres little to do except to encourage consistency and the ability to listen carefully to mistakes made. In any case, there are a few activities teachers can undertake to help students learn basic differences. Aim: Develop recognition of similar preposition use through contrast in written exercise, review of prepositionsActivity: Discussion of similar prepositions followed by a written exerciseLevel: Intermediate Outline Take a few objects into the class, such as a model car, an apple, etc. Use simple sentences to help the class understand the differences between in/into, out/out of, etc. using the propositions.Give the students some of the objects and encourage them to come up with their own sentences, especially focusing on the finer differences between the prepositions discussed.Discuss some of the basics using the preposition checklist below. Ask students to come up with exceptions such as in the morning, afternoon, and evening but at night.  Pass out the handout and ask students to get into pairs to work through the short exercise.Correct worksheet as a class and discuss problems  or questions.Repeat first activity to help reinforce learning. Preposition Checklist Use to with verbs of movement.  She drove to the store./He walked to the park.Use at with places within a city with verbs that do NOT express movement.  Ill meet you at the shopping mall./I like to relax at home on the weekend.Use on with surfaces, both horizontal and vertical.  Thats a beautiful picture on the wall./I like the vase on the table.Use into, out of and onto to express movement from one place to another.  She drove out of the garage./Please put the keys onto the table.  Use in with months, years, cities, states, and countries.  She lives in San Diego./I will see you in April.Use at with times of the day. Lets meet at five oclock./I want to begin the meeting at two.   A Strange Noise in the Night Worksheet It was late (at/in) night when I heard the noise. I got (out of/outside) bed and decided to investigate. First, I went (into/in) the living room and kitchen. Everything seemed to be OK in those rooms. Then I heard the noise (again/over). It was coming from (out/outside), so I put (on/off) my jacket, opened the door and went (into/out of) the backyard. Unfortunately, I had forgotten to (pick up/in) a flashlight on my way (inside/out) the door. It was a dark night and there was a light rain falling. I couldnt see much, so I kept stepping (into/onto) things in the yard. The sound continued to repeat and was coming (over/from) the area (on/in) the other side (to/of) the house. I slowly walked (through/around) the house to see what was making the noise. There was a small table (in/on) the porch which was (next/near) to the wall. (On/To) top of this table was a bowl with some rocks (into/inside). A small mouse was trying to get (out/above) and was moving the rocks (around/through) the bowl making the noise. It was very strange, but now I could go back (in/to) sleep!
